Lillibridge recognizes Ricardo Riojas, M.D. San Antonio Pediatric Associates, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Professional Pavilion

Ricardo Riojas was born in Brady, Texas on October 5, 1936. His father, Rafael Riojas, had a small dry good store in Melvin, Texas where Ricardo attended a segregated school for five years. In 1951 he and his family moved to Ropesville, Texas near Lubbock where his father opened another store. Ricardo was the 100th Mexican American to graduate from Ropes High school. After graduation, he went to Texas Tech University for his Undergraduate degree then on to the National Autonomous University Medical School in Mexico City in 1959. Ricardo did his medical internship with the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio then for six months did a social service rotation in the State of Michoac_n Mexico. From 1965 to 1967 Ricardo did his pediatric residency in San Antonio and an extra fellowship year at Santa Rosa Hospital. He began a pediatric practice with Dr. Jerry Newton and was joined shortly after for three years by Dr. Fernando Guerra. Drs. Newton and Riojas started a pediatric barrio clinic on Merida Street in San Antonio. In 1967 Ricardo married Beatriz Morales who also worked at Santa Rosa Hospital. They now have five children and nine grandchildren. In 1990, Ricardo and a group of physicians at Santa Rosa Hospital started making Medical missionary trips to Mexico and have continued their mission for the last eleven years. In 1995 a group practice incorporating Dr. Riojas was started by Drs. Hugo Clevert Tseng, Angel Garcia del Villar, Jorge Grosz and Jorge Hernandez. The Pediatric Group has grown and now has eight office locations throughout San Antonio, eighteen pediatricians and four pediatric nurse practitioners. Dr. Riojas has been a board certified pediatrician for thirty-nine years, and is an active member at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. Aside from serving as the President of San Antonio Pediatric Associates, Dr. Riojas’ main interest is the formation of small Christian communities that meet in neighborhood homes. Dr. Riojas proudly serves the San Antonio and Santa Rosa hospital community through his dedication as President of The Pediatric Associates as well as a longstanding civil servant and missionary.
