Many can remember the
emotions felt when hearing the
news you and your partner were
going to be parents. For countless
people, becoming a parent is the
most joyful and exciting time
of your life. But for some, it can
be a stressful and frustrating
experience when conceiving
becomes a challenge. For those
who experience difficulty
conceiving, you are not alone.
Fertility treatment options are
available at the Advanced Fertility
Center of the Institute For
Women’s Health.
On May 1, 1996, the Institute
For Women’s Health was formed
when six OB/GYN partners and
I envisioned a large practice
that offered convenient women’s
healthcare in a compassionate
environment. We understood
women have many health-related
challenges and conception is
sometimes one of them.
We opened the Advanced
Fertility Center to provide fertility
services for our patients, offering
couples cutting-edge technology
and customized treatment plans
during this new chapter in their
lives. The Fertility Center is
located at the North Central
Baptist Atrium Women’s Center
in Stone Oak.
At the Advanced Fertility
Center, we offer in-vitro
fertilization, robotic laparoscopic
infertility surgery, ovulation
induction, artificial insemination
with donor sperm and treatment
of recurrent pregnancy loss, to
name a few.
Our experienced medical
staff is available to answer
any questions or concerns in
English or Spanish. A financial
coordinator is also on hand to
answer any questions about
insurance coverage, payment
options, and financial programs
available for couples undergoing
fertility services.
In 1995, Lisa Romo came to
the Institute For Women’s Health
because she and her husband
Johnny were searching for a
physician who could help achieve
their dream; to start a family.
Multiple pregnancy attempts
with in-vitro fertilization ended
in miscarriages and the Romo’s
were devastated every time, but
tried repeatedly for several years
to realize their dream of Lisa
carrying their child. Finally in
October 2006 their dream became
a reality. Lisa once again began
treatment for in-vitro fertilization,
but this time there was an
addition. Her treatment plan
included the use of a gestational
carrier, Lisa’s sister. An embryo
transfer was successful with
her sister and resulted in a twin
pregnancy. Lisa and Johnny were
overcome by emotion. My staff
and I developed a deep bond
with the Romo’s and were happy
but optimistically cautious. For
the Romo’s, Lisa’s sister, and our
medical staff, every blood test
and sonogram was a moment of
guarded anticipation.
May 18, 2007 brought the story
to a well deserved happy ending.
Lisa and Johnny Romo became
proud parents when her sister
delivered the beautiful twin boys
via cesarean section. Johnny Jr.
(named after dad) and Joseph
Romo (named after me) were
greeted not only by their parents,
but by their Aunt and Uncle and
all their relatives and friends.
Every birth is a miracle; this one
was truly inspirational.
We’re here to help our patients
in San Antonio with the exciting
journey into parenthood.
