A youthful buttocks is one of the most sought after physical appearances desired on the male or female form. There is much confusion on how a buttocks can be enhanced. I will help to try and clarify this for you by detailing the easiest to most difficult methods and the shortest-lasting to longest-lasting results.
Not all procedures fit everyone’s lifestyles, needs or desires. It is important that you find a surgeon that understands the dynamics of buttocks to determine which procedure is right for you.
I. Brazilian Butt Lift—This is a fancy word for buttocks enhancement with fat grafting. The ideal candidates are patients that already have tight buttocks skin, are within 10 pounds of ideal body weight (not obese) and want a larger, firmer butt. The downside to this is that fat grafting is unpredictable. Some research has shown up to 75 percent resorption (absorption of fat by the body) over one year, necessitating a repeat procedure. It also gives you the added bonus of liposuction for donor sites for the lipotransfer (liposuction abdomen, flanks e.g).
There is less incidence of infection because we are not using an implant. The Brazilian Butt Lift is short-to -medium-lasting.
II. Buttocks Lift — This involves an incision at the top of the buttocks, much like a tummy tuck incision but reversed. This lifts the buttocks and if there is enough tissue (enough fat underneath) then auto-augmentation can occur. That is, the fat is shaped under the lift to mimic an implant. Candidates for this have enough fat and projection of the butt but the buttocks skin has dropped and blurred the junction of the posterior thigh and buttocks area. Alternatively, a SmartLipo Laser can be used on the lower part of the butt that hangs near the thigh to shrink this area and give the illusion of a butt lift.
The buttocks lift is medium-to-long-lasting
III. Buttocks Implant — Some small thin women do not have enough fat on their bodies to perform the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. If a woman does not have enough donor fat, the other butt augmentation option would be to opt for silicone butt implants. For butt implants, a small incision is made in the crack between the buttock cheeks. The butt implants are then carefully placed in the tissues of the buttock avoiding the areas where important nerves lie. When the incision heals it is difficult to detect. The result is a round and prominent butt.
The buttocks implant can be permanent-lasting as long as the patient takes care of them. Insertion of the implants will fill out the upper and outer parts of the buttock. It is more difficult to fill out the lower part of the buttocks. The implants cannot be placed in this region because of the risk of nerve damage. To fill out the lower part of the buttocks, fat injection is used.
IV. Combinations: Buttocks Implant and Fat grafting (Brazillian) — This possibility is for people who don’t have a lot of fat for the donor site, need an implant to provide projection but also want to fill out the sides or the bottom of the butt.
Buttocks implant and buttocks lift. For people who have loose skin, have little fat as donor site but need to be lifted. These procedures are highly specialized and one should search a physician knowledgeable in complete buttocks rejuvenation.
Risks — The risks of these surgeries include: infection (slightly more with implants), resorption (absorption requiring more fat grafting), scarring, pain, numbness, and fluid collection. Nerve damage has been reported but only if the implant is placed too deep near the sciatic nerve. After surgery you may not sit down for two weeks. You may stand or lie down. We try and make you slightly constipated to avoid problems with the incisions. You will have drains that come out in 1-4 weeks.
The buttocks is a very enjoyable landmark on the human body. The options available to enhance the buttocks are growing in numbers. It is estimated that three times as many people have undergone buttocks procedures this decade than in the last decade. Call to find out more about these exciting procedures. Patients who have had these procedures done are extremely happy and do well if strict instructions are followed.
